Day 4 magic and movies

Today I watched a magic tournament while looking for cards. For those that dont know magic is Magic the Gathering a card game with many strategies and cards.

I didn't enter the tournament but knew two of the players. Afterwards I tried table tennis doubles... And chaos was created. That one will take some practice.

then on to SBL's movie night where we watched some cool and some odd stuff. (www.starbaseleicester.co.uk)

but my rant for the day is about sizes! Why is it we can not have universal sizes? I ordered a shirt from Redbubble for a friend even buying one larger than be usually wears. When it arrives its tiny! Even worse they want me to send it back at my own expense when the last time something similar happened they just sent the replacement. Grrr why isn't the world straight forward.

today has been... Exhausting.

Day 3

hi again.

disappointingly I only made it to day three before I did nothing new worth remembering. Had a meeting, checked a charity shop (great things can be found in these) and that was about it...

New realisation: Have finally admitted I am a bit of a casual gamer. You wont catch me playing the likes of candy crush . Its negative connotations are too much. But the very occasional bejeweled type games are good on the bus. But the new word discovered is dailies. I play dragonvale, a park simulator type game. Similar to the old theme park game (much missed) but with dragons. Each day there is stuff you do... Dailies.

a good way to wind down but I just realised I may be a form of easy gratification. Getting something done or an achievement is bound to make you feel better. Right?

anyway off to feed some dragons. Today was...ok. But dull on the new things front.

DAY 2 New word and .... stuff

day two and a day of work. For those that don't know I'm a library assistant in all the city libraries. Very cool job and my favourite so far. Hopefully my last too.

rant: Why can 'they' not put legal age restrictions on graphic novels at least? Some are soooooo not for kids

new word: dearth

/dərTH/

noun
noun: dearth; plural noun: dearth

a scarcity or lack of something.
"there is a dearth of evidence"

absence
"a dearth of trained specialists"

new food: Well drink really. Home made milkshake. Mint for me (none of those hairy strawberries!) two scoops of value vanilla icecream, some peppermint flavouring and milk. Very nice but I do need to find a fruit flavour I like.

new activity: First time ever writing a post from my phone. This will make posting more often so much easier

today was a good day

right one bus stop to go. Catch you tomorrow

Day 1 again ...

Wow again...

Its another 9 months gone by. Shameful I know but the not so fun side of life tends to get in the way right? You don't want hear about my health, bills, work etc right... thats another blog entirely.

The geek library assistant with arthritis and fibromyalgia, a desire to save the planet with solar and upcycling who also happens to be a bit of a crafter. Not to mention freebie hunter and budgeter

anyway...

Since the last post not a lot has changed. So I feel another 99 day challenge coming on. 99 days makes it OH WOW!!! thats a creepy coincidence! It's today!!! 99 days until the end of 2014.

To day is Day 1 its only just started so there is plenty of time to try something new, find a project etc.

Thursday, 9 January 2014

Wow!

Wow... its 2014 and I'd totally forgot about this blog!

  • Lets see, since the last post
  • I've had a total of three hip operations, hopefully all sorted and I'll resist posting pics of the scars :P
  • I still work in the libraries of leicester and loving it
  • Still catain the longest running Scifi and Fantasy club of Leicester
  • my 2nd batch of spring onions didnt work so well even though I built a raised bed for them
  • remember the one that flowered? I shook off the seeds but with them came a load of bugs!!!! Gross little things. tub remains in garden shed.
So it seems google is in charge of blogger now and lots of other things. It's all getting a bit muddled.

Back again soon I hope

The continuing voyages of 99 Days: Phone emptying and projects galore

Besides what is my busiest month of the year I have a million projects floating around in my head and on very rare occassions I get to actually stop SBLing (doing Star Base Leicester stuff) and actually try a project. Even rarer I remember to take a photo and I've just emptied my phone of photo's so lets see what I have...

Onions:

My first batch of onions :D so much more successful than the tomatos.

The green house is now home to a million bugs and every time I look in there they've got bigger and bigger and there's a yellow and brown spider I've decided to call Fred.  But it will have to come down soon... Next green project? Conker or acorn...

Sitting on the...bus stop

Sitting at a bus stop you see some amazing sights... this nearly blinded me, but it was awesome to see. Wonder what this formation is called?

Ooh clever

Supposedly the first airless ball that can bounce too. Yes I tested the bounce claim and they actually work!

Ghost tracks?A fascinating image. Wondered just how it happened since it starts and stops very quickly

And finally

Modge podge in action. This is a coating on top of magic boosters on a shoe box. Sounds simple but trust me getting a smooth coating takes practice. 1 side left to do and its done, ready for glow in the dark deck protection.

what ever will be next.... eldar mask maybe?

The continuing voyages of 99 Days: bits and bobs

It would seem that onions are truly British or in the very least love the british summer. They were not looking too good in the green house so moved them outside and they're loving it!

However as you can see there was an issue... my BIG TIP for any gardening... think first and take your time with the seeds. Otherwise you'll spend hours thinning the crop and replanting.

On a brighter note I got to do my first window display at a library, a true sign I am in the right place
Basic I know but with only a printer to work with its a start. Hands up who knows where Aylestone Library is? I hear it was used as a morgue in the war....

Now I'm off to try completing a level or two of Dungeon Defenders solo style... just to see if I can

The continuing voyages of 99 Days: Onions

Agh! Spiders!!!!

No. Wait, they're outside its ok. Phew!

So why am I outside? well you can definately say my onions have appeared

And one even turned into a cactus :P

I think the next upgrade would be a waist high bench... lots easier. I also heard that spring onions can grow in water so I thinned the crop a little

Yup this once held laundry tablets...

Will see just how big these can get.

Also if you spotted  the onion in the handy sidepocket of my rucksack looking very sprouty (thanks nin :) ) all is explained!

Turns out if your onion sprouts, it doesn't make mini onions like potatoes instead you get a flower then seeds. Oddly the shoot goes up then down into the soil. Maybe thats not odd to more gardeny people but to me its amazing.

Also totally chuffed that my little sister is so skilled in the kitchen, learnt a new recipe I've so got to try out!

Another amazing thing happened yesterday. I was stopped and congratulated on what looks to be an awesome festival :D

Thats right! This event organiser who's first event 'gunge a teacher' was at 13 yrs old is now coordinating a national scifi festival. When you say it like that it doesn't sound half bad. I wonder if the fact I'm doing it for free, that its not my job, makes a difference? nah.

Days score: uuummmm a good day 8/10

The continuing voyages of 99 Days seeking out new adventures, skills and projects

Well its been a fair few months since the 99 day count down  and if I'm honest there have been a few times I've thought "ooh this could go on my blog" but never got around to it and of course forgot what they were. If only I had one of those internety phones....

So now what? Well I definately caught the bug for doing new stuff and this time its growing spring onions :D

I also got my PTTLS level 4 certificate today, which means I can teach adults but to get a more proper qualification (CTTLS then DTTLS) I have to have a teaching position whih I'm working on.

I wonder if a geekgirl blog would be interesting.

I'm also going to try my hand at DMing (aka being a dungeon master) which should be interesting and a first.

I've also sent for a provisional driving license so lots changing. More random ramblings to come soon

1: Saturday the 31st December 2011

And that is it. 99 days. Not as action packed, or varied as I had hoped for but it seems to have done it's job and made me realise what time we waste! Seriously it's like no matter the grand plans we have being human gets in the way.
  • Reused a cereal box
  • harvested tomatoes but never ate them
  • become a library assistant
  • Discovered and dared try dry salt and vinegar
  • entered magic tournaments for the first time and didn't do too badly
  • learnt a few little facts like how to tell the difference between sharks and dolphins
  • saw my little sister start uni
  • been to a wedding
  • made a draft excluder
  • run many many SBL events
  • Tried and made a habbit of drinking green tea
  • had a tooth removed
  • wasted many hours on games but half realised its not a total waste
  • Joined the gym and gone a few times but not made a habbit of it yet
  • watched some new movies
  • started getting my vitamins in check
  • started my PTTLS call
  • made baby hats
  • made an awesome costume for Tom yet I am yet to get a photo!
  • made soup
  • brought a wii - a big spend and thats one thing I hate doing
  • helped clear out a garage and realised I'm not so scared of spiders
  • had a hair cut, hated it, got used to it, wear hats too much
  • visited warhammer world
  • made pizzas from scratch
  • recognised the value of friendship
  • made a lego tree
  • went for two job interviews and failed but came close
  • had a personal training session
  • made a potato rostie with bacon
  • made pacman and pokeball cupcakes
  • hatched a dino egg
  • Became an aunt

I'm not sure if thats a good list or not but I'll learn from this past and make 2012 even better. I may even post again here so keep an eye out.

2: Friday the 30th December 2011

A day of painting! not the picture kind but the small model kind, today was the Swooping Hawkes of Eldar.  Sounds kind of epic don't they? But they take time to paint well and I still don't do a fantastic job but its very theraputic.

Good to have a day off at last and finally shut off the to do list.

Score: 7.5/10

3: Thursday the 29th December 2011

A visit from family, presents from a far away aunt and an amazingly long day staying up to see Cloudane home at 1am!!!!

I am especially glad I didn't get a job at the cinema so long ago.

only the rest of today and two more days before the start of 2012. I was recently asked what my plans were for the year and I instantly thought of next year. But then realised they meant this year. These last few days and a celebration. But I have no plans.

Question... is the celebration for starting the new year or finishing the last?

Score: 6.5/10

4: Wednesday the 28th December 2011

First ponder of the day: I think by accident I am actually completing the a-z of jobs... a strange concept from the year I graduated.

  • Customer service/call centre

  • Library assistant

  • Retail grunt

I know its only three and I intend tobecome a fully fledged librarian if not first aid trainer.

Second ponder: I wonder if I could design and make a trouser/dress/suit thing in the old style like merlin era or oriental.

Third ponder... I still don't like the first Trek movie but watching it with others isn't so bad

Score: 7... this in between time is a nightmare of inaction and confusion

Tuesday, 27 December 2011

5: Tuesday the 27th December 2011

Shopping and buying nothing is a novelty. Well in that the sales seem to not exist. I have no idea what the crowds out there are buying. Or maybe there is just nothing that I am needing. It's a nice thought really.

Here's hoping everyone had a great time with friends or family or a combination for it these that are celebrated in this more secular world and they are honestly invaluable.

Score: 6.5/10... too many thoughts of the new year in my head. It's like the room full of directionally confused stairs in there.  This inbetweenie bit is clearly the time for contemplation, change and path finding.Good luck to all.

6: Monday the 26th December 2011

A big family meal and much busyness. litterally dropped asleep as soon as I returned.

Score: 7/10 zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Edit: This is what we built yesterday :D it even glows in the dark!

7: Sunday the 25th December 2011

I'm officially a grown up as I did not wake to past 8! but still it was great fun seeing the presents opened and relaxing for the day. Got lots of new wii games and while some I'm not repaired enough for yet I can definately play the others!

Here's some pictures of the dino egg. The simpist present but one of great amusement. Thank you to the giver.

Score: 8/10 dinner cooked for me with gravy and sprouts. Awesome!!!

12 -8 : Tuesday 20th all the way to Saturday the 24th December 2011

Wow would you believe it. Even having all of Christmas sorted a week or two ago I've still been busy all week with visiting my only auntie (and having a very nice dinner), cleaning, tidying, going to my first 'social cinema' event at the phoenix. regrettably it did not finish until gone midnight which meant a taxi home when I was asked if I was going to 'trust' Christmas... very odd.

But somehow it still seems a little empty like something is missing... besides the vitamin D ofcourse. Sorry that had to be said. I've read one cracker joke and my sense of humour has de-evolved.

I am now begining to wonder what to do next year. Push really hard on the library front or learn to drive to get a First Aid teaching job.

Score: 3 - how dull is this post!

Monday, 19 December 2011

13: Monday 19th December 2011

It truely is the festive season. Dinner at mum's and christmas movies. But that means there is not much more to write. Though I have realised how few days there are left until the end of the year. I also realised how this nation seems to come to a stand still at this time of year. I mean if you want to do something new and exciting there are not many options, are there.

Maybe we should take a leaf out the candadians books and get more into winter sports, and sort the transport system out so it can cope with snow. [random rant of the day I reckon]

On a random note I am hatching the dino egg I got yesterday. Just a toy  of course but its kind of fun seeing the chemical reaction and waiting to see the final thing.

Right time to try and think of some random things to try in these last few days. That's scary... sounds a bit empty. What can you do in the last days of December? 12 hole days and the rest of today...

Score: 8/10 what next?

Sunday, 18 December 2011

14: Sunday 18th December 2011

A happy day, a happy gathering. What more can be said. Food, friends games and a bit of music.

Thank you to everyone that made it. I'm no going to stop tidying and go sleep I think... though I may hatch the dino egg hehe

Score: 8.4/ 10. (would have been higher if no one was missing)

Saturday, 17 December 2011

15: Saturday 17th December 2011

I never knew how awesome the southfields library was. Basement, theatre... very cool. besides that nothing much today besides setting up for a gathering.

For the first time the festive season is making me notice friends and how valuable they are. Maybe one day trek worthy friendships will be plausable...

Score: 6/ 10 - did nothing new but did make a discovery so not a total loss.
