63: Sunday 30th October 2011

Got up. played magic. fetched missing ingredient for homemade soup (potatoes), printed SBL christmas meal tickets. Played magic.

The upside it was all with interesting people/friends :)

and while my laptop is ill its the webcam to the rescue.  mouse scroll thingy is not working either. Maybe the bug that has had everyone ill for weeks has moved to the computers...

SNEAKY! BLOOMING TOMATOES!

and I mean that in both senses of the words. Seriously I have not watered them in over a week or maybe even two having pretty much put an end to the project. I go in today (a befuddled plan saw me filling the day with odd jobs) to the greenhouse and there are loads of them! little green ones, red ones and those in between. YAY! odd but yay. It didn't fail as much as I thought.

but you know whats scary... weeks and weeks ago I cut away some of the dead bits. totally brown and sqwidgy vines and leaves if you could call them that. I dropped them onto the rose bed intending to bucket them in the big clean up. But today... I find the biggest best formed tomato sat there!!!!!

How very odd.

Anyway, I'm not actually at home writing this. I'm at a friends on  a very different from mine, PC. Also watching BigBang theory. The one where Penny gets addicted to an online game... explains so much :)

It is odd! Its like my brain has mutated or lost an ability! Did I ever write essays???

It is seriously wierd after 6 years going back to the class room. I didn't expect it but when I sat down to do the essay my brain said "No" it's like I forgot how to read non-fiction (it's not all fact).

Then again I've not been doing much reading lately anyway. DARN! WHAT IS THAT!!!!!!

There's this odd noise like a pixie in the walls knocking to come in. it keeps moving, so as soon as it moves closer I'm out of here!

Here's something to think about, ground rules. You have them in the class room, you have them at work. Where else?

Score: 7/10 though my mind is buzzing with new information I may not sleep

I HAVE HOMEWORK!!!!! :d and it feels good.  Just started my pttls course. Thats preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector... over 16's.

And my specialist subject is... first aid. Was tempted to do I.T. but there are enough techies out there and knowing something as simple as the recovery position or CPR (even just the compressions bit) can save lives.

I think tomorrow I'll set up a working area somewhere and get to work. Yes. I'll have my work in early.

My apologies for missing yesterdays post got totally distracted by a good friend and Star Trek TNG :) then fell asleep on the sofa. Was watching rubbish about hoarders next thing I know it was halfway through wife swap.Trust me. Star Trek is better by far.

OOH OOH also got a new project...

So I am saddened to report another uneventful day. That is nothing unexpected or exciting happened. I didn't learn or teach anything. So to me its not the most valuable day on that score. However I did manage to have a great meeting with Chris my first officer about SBL stuff and resist the urge to buy magic cards.

Also had a relaxed morning of chores (exhausting but relaxing for the brain) and playing magic with Tom. Still can't get my photo's online but they're not going anywhere.

Which would be best for a fancy dress meal... pirate or borg?

and what did I do off that list? Found a website for a buzzer game and made another 'ickle' hat... though missed the ears... saving that for the denim.

Unfortunately either my phone, cable or laptop are broken. I'll try rebooting....

Update: No that failed, and really spoilt my day. that and the fact that again I find myself doing nothing.

70: Sunday 23rd October 2011

30 days in and I've not done a lot have I? Well this really needs to change. I guess its because September and October are my busiest months but thats really not a good enough excuse.

Today was a little different. I saw Jurassic Park, one of my all time favourite movies on the big screen and if I'm honest the big screen really doesn't make a difference. Maybe it would on an IMAX or maybe I've seen it too much who knows. But I think I'm going to have to put away the DVD's for a while. The 'magic' really is lost when you know a movie too well. For now thats most of my collection including karate kid, mighty ducks, sister act, first contact amongst many others.

Tomorrow is hospital again but I'm thinking when I come back into town I should head to the library and start work on one of the projects rattling around in my head. the last time I did this I ended up burning patterns into wooden medalians...

  • tie die... something
  • make a viking style but funky pattern skull cap for when I'm cooking etc
  • baby hat with ears
  • apron mod for a present I've in mind
  • giant buzzer game :D might learn to weld
Which do you reckon I should do?
Score 6/10: tooo darn standard! I may just watch some firefly for the rest of the night. Thats one thing I can't get bored of.

71: Saturday 22nd October 2011

Yawn! this is yesterdays post because by the time I got back it was already Sunday.

After a pretty standard day I went megazone which was annoying since I couldn't play. But then I was handed a camera and took to scaring people by appearing from the dark with the camera flash. I'm sure I ended up with an evil cackle.

Other than that the last two days most awesome bit was two close friends showing up after a long time not seeing them. It was cool and they were two of my oldest friends.

Oh and amazingly I have finally finished sorting the magic cards.

Score 8/10: the good outweighed the bad easily

The SBL Birthday and AGM!

After a hectic cake hunt I finally made it the clubs AGM only to realse I had brought the wrong rucksack!!! Epic fail. It had the awards and entire plan in there. Luckily Tom and Heather came to the rescue rushing back to the house.

Amazingly the club (Star Base Leicester the city's scifi and fantasy club) has been running for 6 years! I was only 21 when it started and thats kind of mind blowing. 6 years... ... in that time I've had 4 jobs, 3 homes and 1 operation and I'm not the only one... people have grown with the group... and trust be when we invade somewhere its a sight to see :) our biggest events reach 35 people :D

Sometimes I do wonder if anyone appreciates the club, the work and time it takes etc but then I get votes for member of the year even when I'm not included and people saying they've nothing negative to feed back they like the club as it is. That makes me smile. I did win it once and that was cool.

Me doing the hopefully not too boring AGM bit

CAKE! we actually had three lol

73: Thursday 20th October 2011

I am amazed. Totally. It was recently suggested I might be missing some vitamins, the B12 variety in particular and this can be a major problem. Especially if you don't have a lot of meat in your diet. It can cause all sorts of things;

  • Fatigue
  • depression
  • poor memory
  • muscle aches and pains
  • tingling sensations in hands and feet
  • irratability
  • and of course at the extreme end of the scale severe and irreversible damage, especially to the brain and nervous system

there's plenty more symptoms and I should have noticed sooner. The bloods have been sent off but looking at my diet and the symptoms I'm definately missing something so I've started taking a multivitamin. Just a cheap supermarket one but already (day 2) I can tell the difference. I feel 'awake' again for the first time since the op if not before hand.

But hold on a second. Anyone who know's me will know I'm not a fan of 'medication' and artificial sources of such things. So while these are fixing the problem I intend to fix my diet. For those that are interested B12 is found in;
  • fish and shellfish,
  • meat (especially liver),
  • poultry,
  • eggs, (but they also contain a factor that blocks absorption)
  • milk,
  • and milk products.
  • Certain insects such as termites contain B12 (Hell no!)

Here's a table from the site I linked back up at the top.

I can work with that...

Score 7/10: lots achieved/completed, and a 'things are looking up' kind of feeling
(and remember I'm not an expert- see your doctor)

A second day at the gym, and exhastion. But the good kind. I'm really hoping to fix my limp with all this exercising its so exhausting walking wobbly! Anyone who's been there knows exactly what I mean. For the rest of you try walking with one foot on tiptoe.

Right now though my head is likely to explode. Even with the to do list in my phone and the one in the diary there is an overflow! but hopefully it'll be a fun weekend. (Party friday, megazone saturday, jurassic park on the big screen sunday) How could it get any better?

Well being able to actually play megazone would be nice. Maybenext time.

For now I'm signing out to tackle the to do list and find some party music. Wish me luck.

Score 7/10 - it feels good to work :)

Real Steel. The first movie to make me laugh in a long time. Totally the underdog formula to the point where you could predict the entire plot but this was well done and a story nicely told. Except for the ending, a bit of a sharp 'cut'. But I tell you what it was awesome watching it with friends and according to Tom the girls (including me :p) must have liked it because we were cackling so much. Laughter is contagious after all.

If you've never invaded a cinema with a whole bunch of friends I highly reccomend it.

on a different note the handful of tomatoes I rescued have finally decided to ripen taking the term late bloomers to a new extreme.

and who can guess what my latest mini green house started life as?

76: Monday 17th October 2011

Today was a day of planning, compiling and organising (and not evil plotting in the slightest) and one day soon plans will come together!

The club birthday, the club xmas party, paper work, and still organising magic cards. Best bit was seeing my sisters Uni Halls. It even smells like new halls, brought back memories of lincoln except her's is a funky shaped room compared to my old squ...rectangle. Though we never had so many odd little noises. I even heard what sounded like a depressed air freshner.

Lincoln was beautiful in the snow and sunshine...

Then the students awoke lol

On it's way the garden project, converting from tomatoes to onions!

Score 6/10: busy, productive but far from exciting.

My first thought at opening this page is usually, What did I do today?

Well, not a lot. Managed to carry my own shopping (after the hip operation), sorted more cards, and went for 'brunch'. Which to be honest is one of the oddest inventions ever.

Went to two new places in Leicester. A posh cafe place called le bistrot pierre in town, and I tried brioche and it tasted like... ...  ... bread. The second place was a well hidden hotel begining with M up near bbc radio leicester. Look up somtime and you may see its balcony. However I am concerned for its lack of stairs. It's just a lift and what do you not use ...?

Much of the day spent on Minecraft :)

79 & 78: Friday 14th, and Saturday 15th October 2011

The first double post and in fact thats a good thing!

Seriously, I've actually managed to join the gym and go without wimping out. It made me feel slightly brave and I'm determined to keep going.

This on top of getting up at 6 for the first time in ages absolutely exhausted me! So definately going to avoid over doing it at the gym. Is it bad when a Gym's shower and even a caravans shower is better than that in your home? I reckon so. Oh well, it leaves room for an upgrade eventually.

Tip of the day:  When looking to buy or rent a place always check for spider and bug liklihood, a good shower and new windows.

I've also spent a few hours sorting many many many magic cards and tidying (does it ever end????) and often puzzling over priorities on a long to do list.

My phrase in relation to friendship and family,

"People are more important so put it down, turn it off and make the time"

It's really hard to shorten but basically things like Tv shows don't matter so don't avoid friends for the sake of one. (Learnt this a long long time ago)

Score: 8/10: Finally did something on my list :D

I'd class today a success I think.

Mastered physio, figured out some new exercises to do, joining the gym after writing this, and had a good event at Gifts for geeks. Got a new hoodie too, perfect fit which is rare (thanks tom).

The best bit was trying out team games of Magic and resisting the urge to buy a big box of boosters. Did you know magic was created by a mathmatics professor?  Anyway, it's really not wise to waste money on non essentials now-a-days. Then again if we don't have our hobbies and enjoyments what have we got? For now I'll resist. It feels like the hype of the event is in too much control for now.  My phrase when it comes to buying is

"If in doubt, don't."
It's that simple and it saves you an amazing amount of money. As does recycling things.

tip: 2 litre pop bottles make awesome plant pots. Cut them just under half way from the bottom but don't cut completely off (It kind of resembles a puppets mouth) and fill with soil.  You end up with a mini green house, for free.

Score- 8/10: still nothing exciting or new, or amazing...

A day of discovery.

In the early hours of the morning, when the milkmen and postmen roam, I was out and seeking a new bus. This time I was heading to Hamilton and I tell you what, I never expected to find a library next to a tesco!

At least it wasn't in it I suppose. Totally shattered and I think I may sleep for a week so if you don't see me you know why. Not only did I discover a new place I discovered a new path. Librarian. Once I have the strength to stand all day I may well have found a new career. The sorting and tidying, helping kids with homework, and helping with PC's, repairing books, and then the event organising, library promotion, stock rotation etc. It's a job that must not be allowed to die.

On a different train of thought has anyone started their xmas lists? I mean what you're getting for who? Me personally I'm annoyed at the shops for starting xmas before halloween has even been!!!!!! RAGE!!!!

Score - 8/10: Nice to be on a path :)

Trying new things is a good thing and finding out new stuff is usually useful right?

Today I discovered stress releases hormones/chemicals that make you put on weight. There was a lot of science to what I read, most of which didn't stick, but it's worth remembering. If only I could find the info online...

I've also been reading how green tea is good for you in many ways. The one that peaked my interest being that it can help reduce inflamation that is the effect of my 'wonderful' arthritis (note the sarcasm). But I remember trying it before and it tasted vile even with sugar. Way too bitter.

Turns out I'm not the only one who thinks so. I found a blueberry and green tea which is very nice. Lets see if it makes a difference.
